Kent “Boo” Gorsuch has more than 50 years of experience playing, teaching, and setting up banjos. As a banjo-focused luthier and longtime teacher, he approaches setup from a player’s perspective, with particular attention to tone, feel, tuning accuracy, intonation, stability, and response.
That playing experience matters at the workbench. Kent combines careful measurements with listening and hands-on evaluation to understand how each adjustment changes the way a banjo sounds, tunes, and responds beneath the player’s hands.
Kent believes a great setup begins by listening—to both the player and the instrument. He evaluates the instrument as a complete system and works to bring its components into harmony and balance.
